Academic mobility in higher education & scholarly exchanges: Credential assessment

Credential assessment is the process of having academic or professional qualifications earned abroad compared to Canadian academic and professional requirements. In Canada, each university or college sets its own admission requirements and its own criteria for recognizing academic qualifications obtained abroad. The Registrar of the institution you will attend can provide you with the appropriate information. In some provinces, credential evaluation services have been established to provide expert opinion regarding the value of foreign credentials, but mainly for professional credentials.

Accreditation

Canada has no central system of accreditation for postsecondary institutions, only for certain programs within these institutions. There are, however, procedures and regulations in place in each province and territory that provide ongoing assessment of the overall quality of an institution in terms of its objectives, processes, and outcomes — equivalent to "accreditation" as it is commonly understood.
